French Gastronomy with Guillaume In Lyon

It was an overcast Lyon morning with a light drizzle of rain - the perfect morning for our first late start...yay, 10 am!! With two women in a tiny cabin with only a single bathroom, we have found the early starts a struggle.

We have been joined this morning by a group of travel agents (aged in their 20s), so now the average age has dropped dramatically! Two of the young ladies are from Newcastle, and have just arrived after 44 hours travelling only to find their luggage is still in transit! 😲😩

This morning with a small group of 10 Scenic passengers, most of whom we now know quiet well now, took a 10 minute drove to a local cooking school to learn how to make Choux pastry here in Lyon.

On this morning’s itinerary was a French cooking class, originally scheduled to be with a chef from the world famous Paul Bocuse culinary school. Unfortunately, this was cancelled prior to our departure from Sydney, but replaced with a lesson at ‘In Cuisine’ led by the very charming and patient Guillaume - a French Patissier, and our lesson this morning was ‘Choux Chantilly’.

What a fun and visually enjoyable morning it turned out to be 😝! Let’s just say...a few of the women in our class commented to me that they were more than happy to spend a few hours paying very close attention to our young chef!

It was a real hands on experience, and Kath dived right in...in fact she was one on the best at piping the Choux!

I got to make the caramel, and add the chopped pear to make the delectable filling for the choux, and then we both sliced up the choux so each passenger could prepare their pastry using a feather spoon to do the plate detailing.

 

I was delighted to see and hear that the majority of the husbands on our trip are the main cooks in the household, and they seemed to enjoy every minute of this morning’s French baking class.

Finally it was time to enjoy the fruits of our labour...Oooh la la ...magnifique!!
